Upper Valley Medical Center Discontinues Labor and Delivery Services

Premier Pulse     January 2024

Upper Valley Medical Center has announced that its labor and delivery services will cease operations on February 29, 2024, with the last delivery on or before Wednesday, February 21. The decision was made after considering various factors, including a declining birth rate, outmigration of births, and challenges around physician recruitment.

Despite this difficult decision, Upper Valley Medical Center and Premier Health remain committed to providing meaningful women's services to patients in the area. The hospital will continue to offer gynecological surgery, and an office in Piqua will provide both prenatal and post-natal care. Additionally, the hospital will be opening its new Women's Imaging Center in March 2024.

To ensure a seamless patient transition, the hospital will collaborate with physicians at Miami Valley Hospital's Berry Women's Center. Staff affected by the closure will be provided with retraining for comparable positions within the health system.
