Healthgrades: Two Premier Health Hospitals Among “America’s 100 Best”

Miami Valley Hospital Only Recipient of Prestigious Award in Dayton Area

DAYTON, Ohio (February 11, 2020) – Premier Health’s Miami Valley Hospital and Atrium Medical Center have been recognized by Healthgrades® as two of the nation’s 100 best hospitals.

Miami Valley Hospital received its fifth consecutive America's 100 Best Hospitals Award™ from Healthgrades. This distinction places it among the top 2 percent of hospitals in the country for demonstrating clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care.

Miami Valley Hospital was the only recipient of the award in the Dayton area.

Patients at “America’s 100 Best Hospitals” are more likely to have a successful treatment without major complications. The award is based solely on the hospital’s clinical quality outcomes over several years, according to Healthgrades.

“We are proud that Premier Health is known for its quality,” said Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier Health. “These awards reflect the outstanding care provided to people in the Miami Valley each day by our physicians, nurses, and other employees who strive to improve the health of the communities that we serve.”

“This recognition is a direct result of our employees’ hard work and dedication to our mission,” said Michael Uhl, president of Miami Valley Hospital. “Our employees continually strive for excellence and are proud to see their efforts earn national recognition. This strong track record of distinction demonstrates our hospital’s – and Premier Health’s – ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.”

Dayton’s only Level I Trauma Center also received several specialty awards, including the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Excellence Award™ for a seventh consecutive year, along with Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries™ for a second year in a row.

Miami Valley Hospital is the region’s largest hospital, with 970 licensed beds. The hospital is home to the region’s only Burn Center, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, high-risk obstetrics, and is a part of the MD Anderson Cancer Network®. Miami Valley Hospital also offers air-medical transport and mobile intensive care ground services to patients through CareFlight, a program that serves more than 450 agencies in 17 counties with four helicopters and six MICU ambulances. The hospital was recently recognized by the American Nurse Credentialing Center for achieving nursing’s highest honor, Magnet® Recognition.

Additionally, for the first time, Atrium Medical Center in Middletown has earned the America's 100 Best Hospitals Award™ from Healthgrades. The hospital, a Level III Trauma Center, provides patients with a broad range of quality services, including the Natural Beginnings Birth Center. As the only natural birth center in the Cincinnati area, the program helps expectant moms with low-risk pregnancies navigate labor with fewer traditional interventions. The hospital also provides services for older adults with an accredited Senior Emergency Center. The center, staffed by specially trained health care professionals, features senior-friendly amenities such as fall monitors, additional railings, non-skid floors, soothing colors, and reduced noise levels. Additionally, Atrium Medical Center’s Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services is nationally recognized, providing treatment such as hyperbaric oxygen for chronic wounds.

Healthgrades, an extensive online resource for information about physicians and hospitals, evaluates hospital quality based on clinical outcomes, adjusting for risk factors such as age, gender, and medical condition. For this year’s awards, the organization analyzed Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the years 2016 through 2018 – which amounts to more than 45 million Medicare medical claims records from nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
