Infusion Therapy

If you need infusion therapy, you can trust Fidelity Health Care’s infusion team to deliver your care in the comfort and privacy of your home. Infusion therapy is when drugs are administered intravenously (through one of your veins) or subcutaneously (just under the skin). The drugs will be prepared by our specialized pharmacists and delivered to your home. Your nurse will see to it that the drugs are infused safely into your body, and will also train your family member or regular caregiver so that they can help you if you need it.

Who Can Benefit From Infusion Therapy?

There are many reasons why people might require infusion therapy. You might need:

  • Antibiotic, antifungal, or antiviral therapy
  • Fluids to prevent you from getting dehydrated
  • Enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Chemotherapy
  • A drug to help you manage your pain or nausea
  • Immune globulin
  • Inotropic therapy to treat heart failure
  • Treatment for a bleeding disorder
  • Other medications that you aren’t able to swallow

What Should You Expect During the Home Visit?

Your visiting nurse, a trained infusion therapist, will come to your home and give you the infused drugs through a needle or a catheter. He or she will also make sure that you understand the treatment you’re receiving and any other medicines you might be taking. If there are side effects associated with your treatment, the nurse will teach you how to manage or avoid them.
