Atrium Medical Center Offers Free Hernia Seminar
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (Oct. 31, 2017) – Hernias and how they are treated will be the topic of a free seminar at Atrium Medical Center on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Check-in and light appetizers begin at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation and a Q&A session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Surgeons James de Caestecker, DO, and Michelle DeGroat, MD, will discuss hernia signs and symptoms, who is at risk and current treatment options.
A hernia is a condition where an organ or tissue pushes through a weak area in the cavity that contains it. Hernias can cause groin pain, nausea or a bulge in the affected area. However, some people have no symptoms. A hernia will not heal on its own. Premier Health surgeons can repair a hernia by using traditional techniques or by taking a minimally invasive approach with small incisions, sometimes using a robot controlled by the surgeon. Most people return to work fairly soon after hernia surgery.
