Ostomy Clinic

Having an ostomy – a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy – takes some getting used to. The Dayton area’s only outpatient ostomy clinics, at Miami Valley Hospital and Upper Valley Medical Center, are here to help you prepare for ostomy surgery. We’re also here to help you with concerns and issues after your surgery, to enable you to maintain optimal health and quality of life.

Services

The ostomy clinics are staffed by advanced practice nurses certified in ostomy and wound care. They provide patients with the following services:

Education and Care

  • Preoperative. Including what to expect with a new ostomy, an introduction to ostomy equipment and care, and a proposed stoma site marking
  • Postoperative. Education on diet, ostomy care, how to obtain supplies, and maintaining quality of life

Help for Established Ostomy Patients

  • Leakage issues
  • Ostomy equipment evaluations
  • Skin-related issues – rashes, wounds, irritation
  • Hernias around the ostomy – custom support belt fitting

Clinic staff also recommend when to see your physician or surgeon.
