Healogics VeinCare Comes to Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services at Atrium Medical Center
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (August 8, 2019) – Atrium Medical Center's Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services has introduced new vein services through Healogics VeinCare. This program allows Atrium Medical Center to provide patients with a higher level of care in a more convenient manner.
The VeinCare program uses minimally invasive laser frequency treatment in the outpatient setting to provide advanced treatment. This treatment will give many patients with venous leg ulcers the ability to heal faster and may even prevent future ulcers,” said Christina L. Hall, program director of the Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services, Atrium Medical Center.
VeinCare is an in-house service provided by the Wound Care Center's management partner, Healogics.
These vein services are a first in the Premier Health system and began in late June.
We are pleased to take part in the advancement of Wound Care by bringing this innovative solution to our community. We recognize the need for local treatment options. Our resources continue to expand with state-of-the-art technology, highly trained providers and valuable partnerships,” said Rhonda Seidenschmidt, MBA, R.T. (R)(M), vice president of operations, at Atrium Medical Center.
VeinCare is especially important for patients who want or need to receive treatment closer to home,” Hall said.
Endovenous laser ablation, a procedure to address problematic veins, is performed in the Wound Care Center. Diagnostic and follow up care exams are provided onsite.
By adding vein services to the advanced wound care treatment options currently available, the Wound Care Center at Atrium will be able to heal more people living with conditions that lead to chronic wounds,” Hall said.
A board-certified vascular surgeon is now able to evaluate and see patients more efficiently and perform in-office laser ablation more efficiently without the need of the operating room or anesthesia assistance,” said Leandra Gray, APRN, MSN, FNP, of Premier Vascular Surgery.
The vein services are provided by Kamran Jafree, MD, vascular surgeon, and Daniel Butler, MD, general surgery and co-medical director.
Vascular disease of the vein affects millions across the country and is often seen as a factor in the development of chronic, non-healing wounds. Vascular disease including peripheral artery disease contributes to 80 percent of all non-traumatic limb amputations in the United States annually, according to Healogics.
Patients can make an appointment for evaluation, but collaboration with a patient's current treatment team is part of the center's comprehensive approach to care.
The hospital's Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services opened in August 2015. The center has 10 specialty trained physicians and clinicians. Vein ablation services now are being offered in addition to a number of other treatments including total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and biosynthetic dressings.
The center received the 2018 distinguished Center of the Year award from Healogics. Of nearly 700 centers having the opportunity to qualify for the award, seven received it. Healogics also identified the wound center as the top-performing Center of the Year nationwide in 2017.
