Ceremony to Honor Organ and Tissue Donors

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (April 6, 2018) - April is National Donate Life Month, and Atrium Medical Center in conjunction with LifeCenter Organ Donor Network will host a Donate Life flag raising ceremony on Tuesday, April 10. The ceremony is open to the public and will honor those who have given or received a life-saving organ or tissue donation.

The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, starting near the main lobby, in Atrium Café Courtyard Dining Room, and then moving outside of the Middletown hospital’s main entrance. Visitors can stop by the LifeCenter display near Atrium Café from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to learn more about organ donation.

For more information, contact LifeCenter Organ Donor Network at 513-558-5555.

Atrium Medical Center is located at One Medical Center Drive in Middletown.

Locally, more than 600 people are on the waiting list for an organ transplant and nationally, nearly 115,000 people are on the waiting list, according to United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). On average 20 people die every day waiting for a transplant in the U.S., according to UNOS.

“Donate Life Month gives us the chance to concentrate our efforts and attention on the most amazing gift anyone can give, the gift of life. This is a special time in which we honor our donor families who make the selfless choice to think of others in their time of sorrow. We celebrate with the recipients who are living their lives to the fullest thanks in part to a stranger. And we thank our hospital partners, who without their help, we wouldn’t be able to make this lifesaving gift possible,” said Barry Massa, executive director of LifeCenter Organ Donor Network.

Atrium Medical Center is a full-service hospital and Level III Trauma Center conveniently located along Interstate 75 at exit 32, One Medical Center Drive in Middletown, between Cincinnati and Dayton. The hospital employs approximately 1,500 people in full-time, part-time and on-call positions. Atrium is operated by the Dayton-based nonprofit Premier Health system.

LifeCenter’s mission is to save, enhance and change lives through organ and tissue donation. LifeCenter is a nonprofit organ procurement organization that facilitates organ and tissue donation and serves 16 counties in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.
