Atrium Medical Center Reverified as a Level III Trauma Center

Accomplishment Marks Fifth Consecutive Three-Year Verification

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (January 19, 2016) – Atrium Medical Center earned its fifth consecutive verification as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. This achievement demonstrates Atrium’s ongoing dedication to providing high quality trauma care for the Warren and Butler county region.

The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma reviews trauma programs every three years in an effort to continuously improve care for injured patients before, during, and after hospitalization.

“This reverification recognizes our ongoing dedication to providing optimal care for the injured patient,” says Carol Turner, president and CEO of Atrium Medical Center. “With this reverification, members of the Warren and Butler county region can take comfort knowing that Atrium remains ready and able to provide critically needed trauma services whenever needed.”

As a Level III Trauma Center, Atrium provides 24-hour immediate coverage by trauma surgeons and specialists in orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and medical imaging. Atrium also maintains a commitment to trauma prevention and continuing education for trauma team members.

“This is not only an achievement for the emergency department, but also for the entire hospital,” says Daniel Butler, MD, medical director of the trauma program at Atrium Medical Center. “The trauma program involves nearly every aspect of service we provide, including pre-hospital care, emergency medicine, surgery, laboratory, medical imaging, inpatient and intensive care units, and even rehabilitation. Achieving verification is a team effort that involves coordination of all these areas for the care of the trauma patient.”

Trough this verification Atrium Medical Center has the ability to provide immediate trauma care close to home for people of the Warren and Butler county region. Many of these patients receive complete care at Atrium – from initial assessment through rehabilitation. When a patient’s injuries are severe enough to warrant a higher level of care, Atrium partners with Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton’s only Level I Trauma Center, for additional care.

Atrium Medical Center maintains the only trauma center in Warren County. Atrium was first designated as a Level III Trauma Center in 2004.
