Catheterization Lab

Peripheral vascular catheterization procedures performed in the Catheterization Laboratory are minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures performed by specially trained and experienced Premier Health physicians called peripheral vascular interventionalists. Peripheral vascular catheterization procedures are performed to diagnose and treat venous and arterial disease in vessels outside the heart and the brain.

Catheterization Procedures

A catheterization laboratory or cath lab is a special examination room with diagnostic imaging equipment used to support the catheterization procedure. During these procedures, a long, narrow, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted through an artery in the groin or arm, while a tracking system provides a clear view of the arterial system and the heart's pumping action.
