Jenene's Story: Back to Life After a Stroke
Jenene Creech doesn’t fully remember what happened on her way to a cardiac rehabilitation appointment at Miami Valley Hospital South. She vaguely recalls trying to call 911, before dropping her phone. And being moved into an ambulance. But the car accident that led to these moments? That slipped from her memory.
At the emergency department, Jenene was diagnosed with a moderate to severe stroke. She had weakness on her left side and impaired vision.
She was transported from Miami Valley Hospital South to the Dayton area’s only comprehensive stroke center: the Clinical Neuroscience Institute’s Stroke Center at Miami Valley Hospital. There she underwent a thrombectomy to remove a clot from her middle cerebral artery, which blocked blood flow to the right side of her brain.
After weeks of inpatient and outpatient physical and occupational therapy, Jenene progressed from having no grip strength, unable to feed herself, unable to raise her left arm, unable to walk, to being able to walk with a cane, learning to do things differently but effectively, and being able to return to work and her life.
