MVH and Good Samaritan Partner for the Future
June 6, 1995, the parent companies of Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) and Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) (closed in 2018) announced plans to create a new, locally governed and managed healthcare delivery system for the Greater Dayton community.
The Joint operating (JOC) – as yet unnamed – will operate the two local healthcare systems, resulting in an integrated network that will offer the most comprehensive continuum of healthcare services within the Greater Dayton Region.
Development of this new system came as a result of the two organizations having a deep-seated commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of this community. MVH and GSH leaders found, during other discussions, that the healthcare organizations have many compatibilities in value systems and long-range goals. By coming together, the organizations can maintain their commitment to high-quality, accessible patient care while enhancing their ability to manage the financial challenges to health care.
The leadership of GSH and MVH will work together to operate the new company. Thomas G. Breitenbach will serve as JOC president and chief executive officer while continuing his duties as president and CEO of both Miami Valley Hospital and MedAmerica Health Systems, MVH’s Parent company. K. Douglas Deck will serve as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the JOC while continuing his current duties as president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital and Samaritan Health Partners, GSH’s parent company.
MVH and GSH will continue to operate as two, independent hospitals. However, the agreement will allow the two systems the opportunity to explore together areas in which they can coordinate efforts to better serve this community.
