Diabetes Care Services

Premier Health helps you control your diabetes and reduce your risk of complications from diabetes. We offer outpatient care, inpatient care, and education programs.

We approach you as a person with diabetes first. Our experience helps us to spot and respond quickly to any condition that relates to diabetes. Since diabetes is a progressive disease, you may come back for more evaluation, education, and adjustments to treatment.

Outpatient Care

Primary care physicians will refer you to us for education or care – or both. Frequently, when you are first diagnosed with diabetes, your doctor will send you (and your family) to us for education programs that will teach you to manage the disease.

We offer classes to help you learn how to control your diabetes. You’ll learn about:

  • Self-monitoring techniques
  • Medication
  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Complications
  • Foot, skin and dental care

These classes are scheduled throughout the year. If needed, you can also receive special counseling provided by a certified diabetes nurse educator or licensed dietitian. We also offer classes for pregnant women with gestational diabetes.

Medicare and private health insurance often cover the costs of these diabetes classes.

Inpatient Care

Our physicians and certified diabetes educators will help you manage your diabetes if you are in the hospital. Close monitoring of diabetes during this time can shorten your hospital stay, prevent complications, and have a profoundly positive effect on your outcome.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center

If you have a complex or non-healing wound, your physician may refer you to a Premier Health wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy center. The centers are located at Atrium Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital South, and Upper Valley Medical Center.
