What is arthritis?

Arthritis in general terms, refers to inflammation of a joint.  The inflammation can be a result of wear and tear on the joint, such as with osteoarthritis.  Or it can be as a result of an autoimmune response to the joint in which the body perceives the joint as a foreign body and creates an inflammatory response against the joint itself.
