What causes epilepsy?

Epilepsy is caused by a variety of conditions. It can be genetic and run in families. It's often caused by trauma or stroke, anything that will affect or damage the brain, head injuries, gunshot wounds to the head. Men and women coming back from military service may have head injuries, and they are predisposed to seizures.
