Meet the Sports Medicine Team at University of Dayton.

Michael Barrow, MD - Medical Director

Michael Barrow, MDDr. Mike Barrow is a sports medicine physician at Premier Health Family Care - NorthHe is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and is board certified in family practice and sports medicine.

Dr. Barrow received the Public Health Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians and served as an attending physician for the Sports Medicine Clinic, United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Barrow serves as the assistant team physician for the University of Dayton women’s basketball team. Dr. Barrow received the High School Team Physician of the Year Award from the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association in 2004.

Sean R. Convery, MD

Sean ConveryDr. Sean R. Convery serves as the medical director for Premier Sports Medicine and for Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center. Dr. Convery attended medical school at Wright State University and completed his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Dr. Convery is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice with a certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine. He is a member of the Miami Valley Academy of Family Practice, the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Convery is an associate clinical professor within the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Department of Family Practice. 

Dr. Convery is currently the head team physician for the University of Dayton and was previously a team physician for Wright State University. He serves as a physician consultant for various Miami Valley area high schools and community athletic events.

Dr. Convery maintains office hours at Miami Valley Hospital South.

Jeffrey A. James, DO - Medical Director

Jeffrey A. James, DODr. Jeffrey A. James received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. Dr. James completed a family medicine residency at TriHealth Bethesda in 2015 and a primary care sports medicine fellowship at TriHealth Bethesda in 2016. He is board certified in family medicine and practices with Premier Orthopedics.

Dr. James is a Credentialed ImPACT® Consultant trained in treating concussions as well as administering and interpreting the ImPACT® test.

Teresa Zryd, MD

Teresa ZyrdDr. Teresa W. Zryd serves as the chief academic officer and vice president for academic affairs/research at Premier Health. She was previously director of the Wright State University Family Medicine Residency, a position she held for more than 14 years. A 1995 graduate of Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, she now is an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine and also holds a Master of Public Health from Western Kentucky University. Dr. Zryd has served as chief medical consultant for the Dayton Public Schools for more than 20 years. She is a former team physician for Fairborn City Schools. Her special interests include preventive medicine, school/public health, and adolescent medicine.

Mike Herbenick, MD - Orthopedic Consultant

Michael A. Herbenick, MDDr. Michael Herbenick graduated from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in 2000 and also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wright State. Dr. Herbenick then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine and practices with Premier Orthopedics.

James Klosterman, MD - Orthopedic Consultant

James J. Klosterman, MDDr. James Klosterman is the orthopedic consultant for Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center, Miami Valley Hospital North location. He practices with Premier Orthopedics and specializes in sports-related injuries, shoulder reconstruction, complex knee reconstruction, and minimally invasive knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Klosterman is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a leader in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the Dayton area and has a special interest in ACL injury prevention.

Joe Rubino, MD - Orthopedic Consultant

L. Joseph Rubino, III, MDDr. Joseph Rubino graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1999. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Dr. Rubino completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Virginia. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Dr. Rubino practices with Premier Orthopedics.
