Physician Scene Response
The on‑scene EMS/Fire Incident Commander will call the CareFlight Communication Center directly to request:
Activation of the Physician Scene Response
- To activate call (937) 208-3838(937) 208-3838 and provide location of incident, resources requested, and direct call back number for the incident commander.
Indications for EMS to Activate the PSR
Field Amputation
Activation is indicated when:
- All available extremity extrication techniques have been attempted without success.
- No alternative exists other than field amputation.
Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)
Activation is appropriate when:
- The incident would benefit from physician response, especially if:
- The event is large.
- There is a delay in transport (extensive extrication, high patient volume).
- The location is exceptional or complex (e.g., near a medical facility or difficult terrain).
CareFlight Communication Center Coordination
Upon activation, CareFlight will coordinate deployment of the following:
Personnel:
- Level I Trauma Surgeon
- Emergency Medicine Physician (CareFlight Medical Control Physician)
Equipment:
- Field Amputation Kit
- Emergency‑release Blood Products
Transport Assets:
- CareFlight helicopter(s) and/or
- CareFlight MICU(s)
These units will transport all necessary resources to the incident scene.
Post‑Response Review
All Physician Scene Responses will undergo review by:
- The Miami Valley Hospital Level I Trauma Program Director
- The CareFlight Medical Director
Follow‑up includes a direct post‑response debrief with the EMS/Fire agencies involved.
