More and more, concussions are a top concern for parents, student athletes, and anyone who cares for them. And at Premier Health, our network of experts is here to help you understand how to prevent, test for and administer the best concussion care for every student on a case-by-case basis.

We are one of the region’s largest healthcare providers of a growing national network of clinical professionals specially trained as Credentialed ImPACT Consultants™ (CICs) and ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainers (ITATs).

We’re here to help simplify this complex injury and equip you with the information you need to feel confident that you’re making the right choices for the ones you love.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion, the most common kind of traumatic brain injury, can be caused by a blow to the head, a fall, a hard hit to the body, or a sudden spinning of the head that causes the head to be jarred quickly. The hit, fall or jarring motion causes the brain suddenly to move inside the skull, changing the way the brain normally works.

Concussion symptoms can include:

ImPACT Neurocognitive Testing is a Smart First Step

Any student athlete or active child is at risk for concussion. Testing your student athlete or child for a baseline cognitive function with Premier Health’s ImPACT Neurocognitive Testing helps establish his or her cognitive ability prior to sustaining a concussion.

We then administer post-concussion neurocognitive testing generally in 24 to 72 hours after a suspected concussion has occurred to give insight into diagnosis and development of a treatment plan.

Post-Concussion Care And Rehab Improve Outcomes

Once there is a concussion diagnosis, the recovery process begins. Our specialists provide post injury evaluation and treatment until your student athlete or child can return back to participation and the classroom.

We offer vestibular therapy for headaches, dizziness or balance issues by physical therapists specially trained in vestibular rehab. And, our team develops and implements a customized physical therapy treatment plan to help restore strength and endurance as your student athlete or child transitions back to regular activity.

Finally, we work with you to establish a recovery team so that everyone will know the signs and symptoms to watch for after a concussion and can be aligned to the return to play protocol.

Minimize Risk for the Future

Multiple concussions are increasingly dangerous, so safety becomes even more significant with each injury.

Premier Health will work with you to identify and understand the precautions that should be taken to help minimize future concussion risk so that you can focus on the sports and activities your athlete loves.
