Premier Health Clinical Neuroscience Institute Welcomes New Neurosurgery-Oncology Division Chief

As a recognized leader in neurological care, CNSI is equally dedicated to advancing the research that shapes the future of treatment for complex neurological disorders.
Neurosurgery is a foundational component of Premier Health’s neuroscience strategy. As part of this ongoing commitment, we are proud to announce the appointment of Andrew E. Sloan, MD, FAANS, FACS, as the Division Chief for Neurosurgery-Oncology.
Dr. Sloan is a nationally recognized neurosurgeon and physician-scientist whose clinical and research efforts focus on the biology and treatment of brain and spine tumors. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Magna Cum Laude, from Yale University and received his Doctor of Medicine from Harvard Medical School. His postgraduate training includes an internship in General Surgery and a Neurosurgical Residency at UCLA, followed by a Fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
An experienced clinician who has performed more than 6,000 craniotomies, Dr. Sloan has been named a “Top Doctor,” a “Castle Connely Best Doctor,” and a “Top Surgeon” for 20 consecutive years. Dr. Sloan’s research has also been extensively funded and supported by prominent organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Ohio Third Frontier program, the NCI- NRG consortium, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), the Adult Brain Tumor Consortium (ABTC), and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), among others. He has also collaborated with several pharmaceutical companies. He has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Stephan Mahaley Award from the National Brain Tumor Foundation and the National Brain Tumor Foundation Neuro-Oncology Award.
In his new role at Premier Health, Dr. Sloan will lead the Neurosurgery-Oncology Division, overseeing clinical care, strategic planning, and the establishment of a robust medical and surgical clinical trials program dedicated to neuro-oncological care.
At Premier Health, Dr. Sloan will focus on:
- Improving access for neuro-oncology patients to Premier Health
- Building a clinical trials platform for neurosurgical oncology patients
- Decreasing the outmigration of brain tumor patients who seek care outside of our community
