MyChart Proxy Access Changes Take Effect Sept. 23

Beginning Sept. 23, 2026, Premier Health will expand MyChart proxy access for parents and guardians of patients ages 12 to 17.

Under the current process, parents and guardians do not have proxy access to MyChart accounts for patients in this age group. While this approach helped protect confidential information, including sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and substance use treatment records, it also limited access to information that parents and guardians may be entitled to view.

Beginning Sept. 23, parents and guardians may request proxy access for adolescents ages 12 to 17. In addition, proxy access will continue when a child turns 12 instead of ending at that time.

What This Means for Providers

To protect confidential information, providers will need to take additional steps to prevent the release of certain sensitive information through MyChart when appropriate. This includes notes related to STI testing, substance use treatment and other specially protected services.

For select laboratory tests, including STI-related testing, ordering providers will need to indicate at the time the order is placed that results should not be released through MyChart.

Additional guidance and educational resources will be shared before implementation. Providers who need assistance should contact their ESS resource or technical education trainer.

Premier Health continues to monitor the proposed Ohio legislation known as the My Child MyChart Act. Additional policy changes may be needed if the legislation is enacted.
