CompuNet Upgrading Coagulation Testing Technology Across the System
CompuNet is implementing new coagulation analyzers across Premier Health facilities to enhance specimen quality assessment and support more accurate test results. Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital North are already live with the new technology, while Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital South and the freestanding emergency departments are expected to transition later this fall.
The new analyzers include advanced specimen integrity checks that automatically assess hemolysis, icterus and lipemia (HIL), as well as verify proper tube fill volume before testing is performed.
Because coagulation testing requires a precise blood-to-anticoagulant ratio, blue-top sodium citrate tubes must be filled completely. The new technology will help identify specimens that may not meet testing requirements, reducing the risk of inaccurate results.
To support reliable testing, caregivers are encouraged to continue following best practices for specimen collection and handling. Proper phlebotomy technique and minimizing hemolysis remain critical to ensuring accurate coagulation results.
Specimens with insufficient fill volume will require recollection. Specimens with moderate hemolysis will include a comment indicating results should be interpreted with caution, while specimens with significant hemolysis may require recollection.
There are no changes to normal or therapeutic coagulation reference ranges associated with the new analyzers.
Questions about the implementation may be directed to Cate Hoesl, system technical director of hematology and coagulation, at cchoesl@compunetlab.com.
