CompuNet: New Lab Test and Ground Transportation for Whole Blood

Premier Pulse     August 2025

Whole Blood Now Available on MICUs

Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICU) teams at Miami Valley Hospital North and South begin carrying whole blood on July 30, making them among the first ground transport services in Ohio. Each MICU will carry two units of low-titer group O whole blood. Early administration of whole blood has been shown to improve outcomes for patients in hemorrhagic shock. Expanding access to this lifesaving resource in the field helps ensure faster treatment and better outcomes when every second counts.

New Lab Test: TEG (ECMO/BYPASS) Global Hemostasis

In July Atrium Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital laboratory went live with a new test to monitor hemostasis for ECMO and Bypass patients using Thromboelastography (TEG) technology.

The new TEG cartridge features a higher level of heparinase to neutralize the patient’s heparin and assist the provider with the true coagulopathic view of the patient. Once the heparin is neutralized, the true coagulopathic picture can be observed in real time via the EPIC Citrix TEG Manager.

  • EPIC Code: LAB6939
  • Test Name: TEG (ECMO/BYPASS) GLOBAL HEMOSTASIS
