Cardi-OH: A Practical Resource for Improving Cardiovascular and Diabetes Care

Premier Pulse     March 2026

By Dean Bricker, MD, professor of medicine, Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine, general internist, Premier Health Internal Medicine

Dean A. Bricker, MDAs Premier Health continues to strengthen its commitment to academic medicine, I want to share an educational resource that many Ohio clinicians may find valuable: Cardi-OH.

Cardi-OH is a statewide collaborative of health care professionals from all seven Ohio medical schools who work together to improve cardiovascular and diabetes outcomes while addressing health disparities. For nearly a decade, faculty and clinicians across the state have worked together to identify and share practical, evidence-based best practices that help frontline care teams deliver high-quality care.

What makes Cardi-OH especially useful is its multidisciplinary approach. Content is developed by primary care physicians, specialists, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, social workers, community health workers, and social scientists. Resources range from short clinical pearls and podcasts to deeper educational articles designed to fit into busy clinical workflows.

One example is Cardi-OH’s concise guidance on motivational interviewing, offering practical tips to help clinicians support lifestyle change and patient engagement. These tools can be especially helpful in managing chronic conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, where behavior change plays a critical role in outcomes.

I encourage providers to explore Cardi-OH and consider it a go-to resource for continuing education and clinical support. You can access the platform by visiting: Cardi-OH | Improving Cardiovascular and Diabetes Outcomes for Ohio Medicaid . Increasing awareness and use of resources like Cardi-OH supports our shared goals of advancing academic collaboration, improving quality of care, and delivering better outcomes for the patients we serve.
