Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way healthcare organizations educate future physicians, care for patients, conduct research and support daily operations. Across the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and Premier Health, AI tools are helping faculty, clinicians, learners and staff work more efficiently while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, privacy and human connection.
In medical education, AI is becoming an important learning resource. Students in the basic sciences are using AI-supported tools to prepare for board examinations, review complex concepts and reinforce key learning objectives. Faculty continue to emphasize the importance of critical thinking, independent judgment and validating information from trusted sources.
The Boonshoft School of Medicine's Family Medicine Clerkship is also incorporating AI-assisted motivational interviewing tools to help students strengthen communication skills. These platforms provide feedback on techniques such as open-ended questions, reflective listening, affirmations and summarizing. AI can also measure conversational patterns and provide insights into patient engagement, helping students develop stronger relationships with those they serve. Faculty mentorship remains essential in teaching empathy, professionalism and other interpersonal skills that technology cannot replace.
AI is also enhancing patient care across Premier Health. In Family Medicine and Pediatrics, ambient listening technology, including Microsoft Copilot, helps generate clinical documentation during patient visits and EPIC ART (Augmented Response Technology) for clinicians helps with inbox messages. By reducing time spent on documentation, clinicians can devote more attention to patients and families.
Within Premier Health's Clinical Neuroscience Institute, RapidAI is helping care teams respond more quickly to patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke. The advanced imaging platform analyzes CT and MRI scans, identifies potential large-vessel occlusions and alerts clinicians to findings that may support timely treatment decisions. Faster access to critical information can help reduce time to treatment and improve patient outcomes.
Researchers are using AI to support literature reviews, strengthen grant applications and improve access to scientific information. Administrative teams are also leveraging tools such as Microsoft Copilot and AI-powered transcription software to assist with curriculum development, communications, meeting documentation and operational processes.
As AI capabilities continue to evolve, Premier Health and the Boonshoft School of Medicine remain focused on using these technologies responsibly. Our goal is not to replace human expertise, but to enhance it.
