Advancing Allergy Testing at CompuNet

CompuNet Clinical Laboratories will soon (June/early July timeframe) offer dog and cat allergy component testing, expanding diagnostic capabilities for one of the most common and growing sources of allergens. Sensitization to pet dander is increasing worldwide, and this new testing approach allows allergens to be analyzed at a more detailed level by breaking them into individual components.

By measuring IgE antibodies to specific components, providers can better distinguish between true primary sensitization and cross-reactivity. This added precision can support more informed decision-making when advising patients about pet exposure and selection.

Component testing also supports a deeper understanding of allergy patterns. It can help identify patients at higher risk for asthma and provide insight into individual IgE profiles, enabling more targeted and personalized treatment strategies, including allergen avoidance, medication management and immunotherapy.

In addition, this advancement opens the door to more tailored immunotherapy approaches. As the only treatment capable of altering the natural course of allergic disease, immunotherapy may become more effective when guided by detailed component-level insights.
