Recently Added Nurse Practitioner Provides Overnight Care for Two Cardiology Practices (DHC)

Heart Health News

Jamie Richards, RN, MS, FNP-C, recently joined the teams of both Dayton Heart Center and The Premier Heart Associates to provide overnight coverage at the hospital for the two practices.

As a certified family nurse practitioner, Richards can provide many of the same services a physician can, including ordering tests, doing exams, counseling patients, and writing prescriptions.

“I am excited about the opportunity to bring around-the-clock care to our cardiology practices and to help advance the presence of advanced practice providers working in specialty areas,” Richards says. “I also love the team approach, and the ability to work with some of Ohio’s leading cardiologists.”

Dayton Heart Center’s Joel Tobiansky, MD says he is thankful Richards joined the cardiology team and talks about the importance of her role.

“I believe that it is important to have on-site coverage at night with advanced practice providers so that cardiac care can be expedited,” he says. “This will result in improved quality of care and a shorter length of stay, among other benefits.”

Richards received her Bachelor’s Degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan in 1997, and she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado in 2013.

Working as a registered nurse for the past two decades, Richards became an advanced practice nurse four years ago.

Over the years, Richards’ roles have included working as an associate professor in emergency medicine at the University of Colorado; as a nurse practitioner at Denver Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado; as a nurse practitioner in urgent care and occupational health at Wilson Health in Sidney, Ohio, and as a cardiology nurse practitioner for the Ohio Heart Group in Columbus.

Most recently, Richards worked as a cardiology nurse practitioner at Adventist Heart Institute at St. Helena Hospital in Clearlake, California.

Originally from Ohio, Richards says she’s excited to be back near family. When she’s not working, Richards enjoys traveling and has been to 10 countries in Europe. She says her favorite cities include Rome, Italy; Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Edinburgh, Scotland.
