Moody’s Upgrades Premier Health Credit Rating; Fitch Affirms A- Ratings

DAYTON, Ohio (Sept. 2, 2026) — Moody′s Ratings has upgraded Premier Health’s bond rating to A3 from Baa1, while Fitch Ratings has affirmed the health system′s A– ratings. Both agencies assigned stable outlooks and cited Premier Health′s improved financial performance, strong position in the Dayton market and growing clinical and academic integration with Wright State University.

“The upgrade from Moody′s reflects the consistent and significant progress our caregivers have made over the past four years to strengthen Premier Health’s financial performance and strategic position,” said Premier Health Chief Financial Officer Craig Ganger. “A stronger financial foundation allows us to invest in our workforce, facilities and technology while advancing our partnership with Wright State University and expanding the specialized services patients need close to home.”

Both agencies highlighted Premier Health′s strong market position and growing integration with Wright State University. Moody′s described Premier Health as a key provider of advanced care, while Fitch cited Miami Valley Hospital′s role as the region′s largest hospital, Premier Health’s broad outpatient network and the academic affiliation’s support for physician training, recruitment and specialized clinical services.

Moody’s cited continued financial improvement, stronger liquidity and Premier Health’s ability to invest in capital needs and its academic strategy.

Fitch said Premier Health’s operating performance improved meaningfully in 2025 and remained favorable through mid-2026, supported by patient-volume growth, supplemental reimbursement and improved labor management. Fitch also noted the system’s successful execution of its turnaround plan and expectations that performance will remain stable over the near to immediate term. The agency cited the health system’s continued focus on productivity, caregiver retention, revenue optimization and clinical service growth.

Premier Health reported approximately $2.9 billion in operating revenue and a 3.5% operating margin at the end of 2025.

Credit ratings are independent assessments of an organization’s relative creditworthiness and ability to meet its financial obligations. Stronger ratings can improve access to financing and potentially reduce the cost of borrowing for long-term investments. Credit ratings do not assess the quality of clinical care or guarantee future financial performance.
