Premier Health's New Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care Center Delivers Whole-Person Care at Every Stage of the Journey
DAYTON, Ohio (July 16, 2025) – Premier Health has opened its new Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care Center at Miami Valley Hospital South, delivering compassionate, whole-person care designed to support individuals across every stage of their cancer journey, from prevention and risk management to survivorship and palliative care.
The center reflects Premier Health’s commitment to treating the whole person by combining advanced clinical services with extensive supportive care. Whether it’s helping someone prevent cancer, manage treatment side effects, or thrive after therapy, the center empowers patients and their loved ones with expert guidance, close to home.
“This center represents a major step forward in our ongoing efforts to enhance cancer care at Premier Health,” said Amanda Musser, MSN, RN, system vice president of oncology services at Premier Health. “By integrating preventive, supportive, and survivorship services earlier in the process, we aim to help patients manage treatment more effectively and support better long-term outcomes. It’s about treating the whole person, not just the disease.”
Services at the Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care Center include:
Prevention and Risk Reduction
- Genetic counseling and testing to assess hereditary cancer risk
- Individualized prevention plans: nutrition, exercise, sleep, smoking cessation
- Screening and surveillance based on national clinical guidelines
Support During Treatment
- Nurse navigators to coordinate care and connect patients to resources
- Dietitians to manage treatment side effects and promote healing
- Financial counselors to address costs and connect to assistance
- Oncology social workers for emotional support, counseling, and advocacy
- Access to wellness programs, art/music therapy, and support groups
Survivorship and Long-Term Care
- Post-treatment wellness plans developed with advanced practice providers
- Recurrence monitoring, healthy lifestyle guidance, and specialist referrals
Palliative Care Services
- Available from diagnosis onward to manage symptoms and offer emotional and spiritual support
- Guidance through advance care planning and complex decisions
“At Premier Health, we are inspired every day by our vision to inspire better health,” said Musser. “This new center is a powerful expression of that vision. We’re redefining what it means to support someone with cancer. Premier Health is providing for patients not just through medicine, but through every resource that helps them heal, thrive, and live life fully.”
The Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care Center also helps close a gap in oncology nutrition services. According to the National Cancer Institute, up to 80% of cancer patients experience malnutrition during treatment. Many outpatient cancer centers, including those within Premier Health, face challenges in providing this essential support due to limited insurance reimbursement options from Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurers. As a result, many patients are left with significant out-of-pocket costs during an already financially and emotionally taxing time.
Recognizing this need, Premier Health has made nutritional care a standard part of its cancer treatment model. Thanks to the support of the community, these services are now more accessible than ever.
In 2023, the "Threads of Strength" fundraiser — held in partnership with the Atrium Medical Center Foundation, Good Samaritan Foundation–Dayton, Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, and Upper Valley Medical Center Foundation — raised funds to expand cancer wellness programs. The event supported the growth of integrative therapies and the launch of new oncology nutritional clinics and counseling services across Premier Health’s cancer care system.
The Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care Center is located at Miami Valley Hospital South, 2300 Miami Valley Drive, Suite 150, Centerville. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patients can speak with a member of the team by calling (937) 932-2075(937) 932-2075 to learn more or to begin their personalized cancer care journey.
