Minimally Invasive Surgery at Premier Health

Minimally invasive surgery provides you with an advanced option to traditional open surgery. This newer form of surgery uses only a few small incisions for procedures that were previously done with larger open incisions. Not everyone is a candidate for minimally invasive surgery, but we’re performing more and more of these advanced surgeries to offer the many benefits they provide.

Minimally invasive surgery can lead to:

  • Less blood loss
  • Reduced pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Less scarring

How Minimally Invasive Surgery Works

During a minimally invasive procedure, your surgeon passes a long, thin tube with a miniature camera at the end (called an endoscope) through one of the incisions. He also passes small surgical instruments attached to similar tubes through the other incisions. The camera allows your surgeon to see clearly so he can manipulate these small surgical instruments precisely within the body.

Enabling Extreme Precision With Robotic Surgery

Surgeons at Premier Health perform a specialized form of minimally invasive surgery called robotic surgery. Robotic surgery gives the surgeon a better 3-D view and range of motion while working through small incisions.

We’ve extended our leadership in minimally invasive surgery through the addition of a fourth surgical robotic system. These robotic systems allow our surgeons to offer you a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.
