What are your clinical specialties?

We are both neurologists. Karen is a general neurologist and Steve is a vascular neurologist.

Where did you go to school?

Karen went to University of Texas at Houston McGovern Medical School and stayed there for her neurology residency and EMG fellowship. Steve went to Rush Medical College, then to University of Iowa for his neurology residency and neurophysiology fellowship.

What brought you to Premier Health?

After 26 years of practicing in Kansas City, we began looking for jobs with more flexibility, and both wanted work as neurohospitalists and teachers. We are very happy here and so impressed by the expertise, kindness, and work ethic of our fellow physicians. We knew right away that we had made the right decision.

Why did you choose medicine as a career?

We both loved science and found the brain fascinating and challenging.

Who are the people who influenced and/or mentored each of you?

Our wonderful and skilled professors who served as excellent and inspiring role models.

What is one thing most people don’t know about each of you?

We met at an epilepsy conference in Palm Springs and had a long-distance relationship.

Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Dayton Flyers and Ohio State University
