Warren County Safe Communities Coalition Reminds Passengers and Drivers: Seatbelts Save Lives
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (May 24, 2017): The Warren County Safe Communities Coalition announces the kickoff of the 2017 “Click it or Ticket” campaign in Warren County. This campaign and mobilization is part of a nationwide effort, coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with a primary goal of increasing seatbelt use and raising awareness.
Warren County Safe Communities Coalition is teaming up with local law enforcement and traffic safety partners to promote the “Click It or Ticket” campaign and crack down on motorists who are not buckling up. Aimed at enforcing seat belt use to help keep you and your family safe, the national seat belt campaign will take place May 22 through June 4, concurrent with one of the busiest travel and holiday weekends of the year.
“It is our responsibility as a coalition to promote seatbelt use and reduce the amount of preventable injuries and deaths in Warren County,” said Ann Brock, program coordinator for Warren County Safe Communities and trauma outreach coordinator for Atrium Medical Center.
Seatbelt use reduces the risk for serious injury and death during a crash by about 50 percent, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
. Adult seat belt use is an effective way to save lives and reduce injuries in crashes, yet, 1 in 7 adults do not wear a seat belt on every trip, also according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nearly half of the 22,441 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2015 across the U.S. were unrestrained, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. At night from 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m., that number soared to 57 percent of those killed. That’s why one focus of the Click It or Ticket campaign is nighttime enforcement. Participating law enforcement agencies will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night.

- You are less likely to lose your life in a car accident if you wear your seat belt.
- It’s the law.
- Airbags are much less productive when you aren’t wearing a seat belt.
Warren County Safe Communities Coalition focuses on motor vehicle and traffic safety awareness initiatives year-round. Coalition members include Atrium Medical Center, Warren County Career Center, Warren County law enforcement agencies, local government agencies and Ohio State Highway Patrol.
