Job Description

Premier Physician Network (PPN) and Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) are seeking a full-time faculty physician specializing in Acute Care Surgery.  This position offers a unique opportunity to join a collaborative team that blends academic medicine with clinical practice across Dayton and the surrounding region. As a faculty member, you will play an integral role in educating and training medical students, residents, and fellows, while providing care to a diverse patient population in a variety of clinical settings.

In this role, you will be part of both Premier Health, one of the largest and most comprehensive healthcare systems in Southwest Ohio, and Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine. This partnership creates a dynamic environment where patient care, clinical research, and medical education intersect. As a faculty physician, you will contribute to improving patient outcomes, advancing clinical innovation, and shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. Premier Health’s expansive resources—including five inpatient hospital campuses, a broad network of urgent care centers, free-standing emergency departments, 170 physician office locations, and specialized services—combined with the academic excellence of Wright State University, offer an unparalleled platform for growth and impact in both healthcare and medical education. Join us in advancing academic medicine and community health while shaping the future of medical education in Southwest Ohio.

The position is based at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio; a 1,133-bed hospital, which has been an ACS, verified Level 1 Trauma Center since 1992 and has over 4500 trauma admissions annually.  The candidate will be joining a core of 9 surgeons whose scope of practice includes trauma, surgical critical care and emergency & elective general surgery.  The surgeon will participate in patient care, research, educational activities, and regional trauma system development.

Core responsibilities of the surgeons in the division include resident and medical student education, surgical and critical care of trauma patients, caring for elective and emergency general surgery patients as well as research. The trauma program is supported by 20 advanced practitioners, in-house radiology and interventional radiology, an attached inpatient rehabilitation facility, and all necessary subspecialty support including orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics (including re-implantation), maxillofacial, OB/GYN, and anesthesiology.

The Surgery department runs a combined civilian/military residency program that graduates 8 chief residents annually. Miami Valley Hospital also serves as the main hub of clinical rotations for the medical students at Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, an ACGME approved Surgical Critical Care fellowship and an AAST approved Acute Care Surgery fellowship.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have completed an accredited surgical residency program and a fellowship in trauma/critical care and have interest and experience in scholarly activity. Board eligibility/certification in general surgery and surgical critical care is required. Must be licensable to practice medicine in the state of Ohio.
