What causes cervical cancer?

The longer cervical cancer goes undetected, the harder it is to treat, so it’s important for women to have regular visits to their gynecologist, according to the American Cancer SocietyOff Site Icon (ACS).

The American College of Obstetricians and GynecologistsOff Site Icon (ACOG) states that one of the main causes of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. There are some vaccines available that can protect against some types of HPV, according to the ACOG.
