What is a comprehensive stroke center? What makes it special?

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association suggests that improved survival in hemorrhagic stroke may be associated with comprehensive stroke centers, according to the American Heart AssociationOff Site Icon. Joint Commission-certified comprehensive stroke centers are those that have demonstrated availability of advanced imaging techniques, staff that is trained in vascular neurology, neurosurgery and endovascular procedures, and 24-hour availability of those services and staff, according to the ASA. Certification of comprehensive stroke centers is rigorous and requires additional technology and resources compared to the certification of advanced primary stroke centers, according to The Joint CommissionOff Site Icon.
