Are colon polyps common?

Colon polyps are a common finding during screening exams of the colon and rectum, according to the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS).  
The polyps are abnormal growths and affect 20 percent to 30 percent of American adults, according to the ASCRS.
