Who is at greater risk for developing cervical degenerative disc disease?

The predisposing factors to developing cervical disk disease are smoking, and prior history of trauma such as a car accident or fall.

You can develop cervical disk disease through a number of things. As we age we lose the water content of our disk which make us more prone to it, history of trauma can make you more prone to developing it, and there are some other risk factors such as smoking, which can make you more prone to development.

Some people are at greater risk of developing cervical degenerative disc disease than others.

Premier Physician Network (PPN) physicians say smoking increases your risk of getting the disease. Having a traumatic injury, such as a car accident, in your past can also increase your risk.
