Gout is a form of arthritis that results from excess uric acid in a patient’s system, according to the Arthritis Foundation (AF). The deposits collect on the patient’s joints, leading to deterioration and causing pain, according to the AF.
Omega-3 fatty acids, also called “fish oil,” is sometimes used to alleviate the discomfort of some forms of arthritis, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The use of omega-3 fatty acids can produce better outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis, and may be an effective alternative to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to treat the condition, according to the AF.
