Anterior hip replacement, a procedure in which the incision is made in the front of the patient rather than through the side or back, is increasingly more common for a number of reasons having to do with its benefits, according to the National Institutes of Health
. According to the NIH, patients who have anterior hip replacement as opposed to other surgical hip replacement methods may experience:
- Less blood loss
- Decreased dislocation rate
- Faster recovery
- Retention of normal muscle strength
