What is the relationship between weather and joint pain?

Many people with arthritis report an increase in pain during rainy weather, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic SurgeonsOff Site Icon.

However, a 2007 study at Tufts University in Boston found an incremental increase in arthritis pain for every 10-degree drop in temperature and changes in the barometric pressure according to the Arthritis FoundationOff Site Icon. The weather-arthritis relationship can be a factor from one patient to another, and is an issue that arthritis sufferers should discuss with their physician, according to the AF.
