Premier Health Nursing Shared Governance celebrated in February its second anniversary of bringing nursing together in a renewed professional practice shared governance structure in which nurses from all levels (administration, management, clinical nurses, educators, advanced practice, etc.) and settings come together monthly to empower nursing and integrate Premier Health’s mission, vision, and core values as a means of achieving quality care, improving nurses’ work environment, enhancing engagement, and strengthening retention. In its simplest form, shared governance is shared decision making based on the principles of partnership, equity, accountability, and ownership at the point of service. At the end of each year, the councils reflect and provide a “stoplight report” to summarize the activities of the year.
