Outcomes in Magnet ‘Big Three’
During the Magnet site visit from Nov. 12 to 16, 2018, we were honored to express our excellence with OUTCOMES in the Magnet “Big Three”: RN Engagement, Patient Experience, and Nursing Sensitive Indicators (NSI).
RN Engagement Survey Summary May 2018
Unit level performance compared to national benchmarks from NDNQI (National Database Nursing Quality Indicators) database to include bed size, teaching status, and all hospitals mean and median.
- Atrium Medical Center: 10 of 16 units outperformed the majority of four categories!
- Upper Valley Medical Center: 10 of 15 units outperformed the majority of four categories!
- Miami Valley Hospital/Miami Valley Hospital South: 16 of 45 units outperformed the majority of four categories and had 24 out of 45 units outperform in two or more categories, meaning the eight units that outperformed two out of four categories were only one category away. Miami Valley Hospital/Miami Valley Hospital South only needed seven more units to outperform overall for RN Sat. Also, Miami Valley Hospital/Miami Valley Hospital South had 34 out of 45 units outperform in one or more categories.
Patient Experience Summary 3Q 2016 to 2Q 2018
Unit level performance compared to national benchmarks from NRC (National Research Corporation) database to include bed size, teaching status, and all hospitals mean.
- Overall Premier Health Nursing has outperforming Patient Experience Scores. We are most proud of the consistency in our performance across all hospitals in three categories: Patient Engagement, Patient Education, and Safety.
- Also, Atrium had all eligible units outperform in Care Coordination, MVH outperformed Service Recovery, and UVMC outperformed in Courtesy and Respect.
Nursing Sensitive Indicators Summary 3Q 2016 to 2Q 2018
Unit level performance compared to national benchmarks from NDNQI (National Database Nursing Quality Indicators) database to include bed size, teaching status, and all hospitals mean and median.
- Overall Premier Health Nursing has EXCELLENT Nursing Sensitive Indicators. We are most proud of CLABSI, with CAUTI close behind.
- We also look for opportunity. Falls with Injury has the most opportunity for improvement.
While the appraisers do not make the decision if we are designated Magnet, they do compile a report by the end of November that is sent to the Magnet Commission, a group of international leaders and representatives. The Magnet Commission will review the appraiser reports during the next available slot.
