In September 2018, the Heart and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (HVIC 4) at Miami Valley Hospital received a silver level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The Beacon award recognizes units with exceptional patient care and patient outcomes, as well as caregivers who improve patient outcomes through adoption of the AACN Healthy Work Environment Standards. Award criteria is also consistent with the Magnet Recognition Program and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

HVIC 4’s silver award is based on meeting specific criteria, including: leadership, staff engagement, communication, knowledge management, learning, evidence-based practice, and outcome measurement. Achieving Beacon status is a long-term commitment that requires time and teamwork! Only 18 ICUs are recognized in the state of Ohio. Congratulations to HVIC 4!!!
