Smart Phone Apps to Help You Live Healthier

Smart phone apps have changed the way we live. While countless apps are available to choose from, selecting a few can be overwhelming. Below are a few suggestions of apps that may motivate, educate, and support you on your journey to better health. These are free apps that are compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Go to your app store for more detailed descriptions. Some have the option to upgrade to a higher version for a fee.

General Health:

  • Health Tap: Get help by talking to a live doctor anytime from anywhere. Also provides personalized answers, tips and news directly from doctors.
  • iTriage: Search your symptoms and learn possible causes. Find an appropriate treatment facility or doctor. Lookup information about diseases, medications, procedures, treatments and more.
  • QuitNow!: Track the length of time since your last cigarette and how much money you have saved. Get tips and tricks from others and offer your own support.
  • Sleep Bug: Provides ambient sound to help you calm your mind and sleep better. Choose from 24 different sounds such as weather, lullaby, classical, water, forest and more.
  • Medication Guide: The easiest way to lookup drug information, identify pills, check interactions and set up your own personal medication records.

Physical Activity:

  • Endomondo: Use GPS to track your activity, speed, distance, etc. Also log indoor workouts, keep a training log, send audio pep talks to friends, and share results on social media.
  • Map My Fitness: Log over 600 different types of workouts and record GPS-based activities to see detailed stats. Connects to 400+ fitness devices to import and analyze your data in one place.

  • Jawbone Up24/Up3: Uses data from UP devices to provide guidance from the smart coach for ways to reach goals faster. Set goals and log foods and activities to stay on track.
  • Garmin Connect Mobile: Access all your Garmin Connect data from your smartphone. See charts, graphs, maps and more to view activities, and track progress towards goals.
