Cultivating Well Being: Putting Stress into Perspective

Aug. 16, 2018, 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital South, Education Center Conference Room, 2400 Miami Valley Drive, Dayton, OH, the Health Ministries Program of Premier Health is pleased to bring Cheryl Griffin LISW-S, Program Manager of Counseling and Community Services, and Elizabeth Edington, MSSW, LSW, Individual Family Therapist, both from Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, as our presenters for this offering.

We will be looking at “Why Stress?” to examine the causes and effects of stress. Then “Take Charge” and explore strategies to minimize the negative effects of stress. Finally, we “Beat Stress” by reframing this experience and cultivating wisdom that protects us from the “stress mind”.

Montgomery County Prevention Collaborative Lunch and Learn Trainings

Bring your LUNCH and LEARN from training opportunities being offered by Montgomery County Prevention Learning Collaborative.

Two Recognized Clock hours will be awarded to Ohio Certified Prevention Professionals (Approval# 50-17863) for their attendance at these trainings, though all professionals and community members are welcome to attend.

Prevention initiatives nationally and locally continue to gain momentum and funding towards the goal of preventing systemic health and safety issues that cost dollars and rob individuals, families and communities of their ability to thrive.   • Aug. 21, 12 – 2 p.m., “To Do Or Not To Do? Navigating Effective Strategies in Prevention”. This training will address why outdated prevention practices do not resonate with youth, nor work in preventing youth from using substances. Learn about the developing brain and why some messages work better than others. Also, learn how to transform your strategies using best prevention practices.

Be sure to bring your brown bag lunch! ADAMHS will provide coffee and water as well as a FREE parking pass to park in the Water Street garage which is required parking for all attendees. The parking garage is accessible by turning at the stop light at the intersection of E. Monument Ave. and Water Street. Ohio’s Hospice: Matters of the Heart Training

On Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., Ohio’s Hospice will be offering How Do You Do It? at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, Community Room, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, 45420. Note that this is a different location from previous offerings of the Matters of the Heart series. Matters of the Heart Trainings are intended for clergy, staff and lay ministers/volunteers.

This training will cover:

  • Being present and helpful to those who are critically ill, dying and/or grieving
  • Methods for offering support and guidance
  • Maintaining boundaries to help ensure self-care

Hot breakfast will be available starting at 8:15 a.m. Multiple individuals from the same congregation/church/ temple may attend (please register each person attending).

2018 Health Ministries Association Annual Meeting and Conference

Health Ministries Association will again be in our area for their national conference, Sept. 7 – 10, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Training and Educational Center, Erlanger, KY.

The theme is “The Sacred Practice of Caring: Partnering For A Healthy, Hopeful Future”. A great list of Keynote speakers will be presenting on this theme including:

  • Cea Cohen Elliott, BS, MA - “Hearing Your Voice Within”

  • Sister Dr. Nancy Linenkugel, OSF - “Can We See Sacredness From Here?”

The Peace Luncheon will feature a presentation by Pastor Greg Delaney, BS, on “A ‘Little HOPE’ Changes Everything (Faith’s Response to the ADDICTION Crisis)”. Highlights also include ten concurrent workshops, Hall of Excellence poster presentations, spiritual offerings, and an exhibit hall.
