Health Ministries

What Is Health Ministry?

Health ministry is a faith-based service designed to help promote health and wellness, prevent disease, reduce health disparities, and facilitate healing and wholeness in groups and individuals. (Source: The Health Minister Role: Guidelines and Foundational Curriculum Elements, 2nd Edition, 2018, Health Ministries Association)

Premier Health is proud to offer the following services for Southwest Ohio faith communities:

  • Assisting congregations in all aspects of health ministry development, including formation of a health council, cabinet, or team
  • Continuing education workshops
  • Co-sponsorship of quarterly Health Ministry Network meetings
  • Bi-monthly e-newsletter
  • Blood pressure screening resources
  • Opportunities to participate in special projects
  • Community liaison to greater Dayton area agencies and resources

Our health ministries program began in January 1994. Good Samaritan Hospital (closed in 2018) and St. Elizabeth Medical Center were the original sponsors of this program, which grew out of their similar mission to serve the greater Dayton community. Premier Health is now the program sponsor.
