Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, Premier Health Forge New Approach to Chronic Care

New Center on Miami Valley Hospital South Campus to Support Care at Home for Those With Complex Illnesses

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (October 16, 2017) - Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton and Premier Health will enhance the Dayton region’s continuum of health care through a new project on the Miami Valley Hospital South campus in Centerville. In early 2019, the two organizations plan to open a new center, the Pure Healthcare Center, from which to serve those with serious and chronic illnesses in their own homes.

Comprehensive services will be provided by a team of Pure Healthcare professionals to address complex medical conditions, multiple chronic illnesses and quality-of-life issues. The new center will serve as a medical home for patients and will combine functions of care management, rehabilitation, and social services to ensure a more holistic, wellness-centered patient experience. Locating the Pure HealthCare center on the campus of Miami Valley Hospital South aims to ensure patients and families can rely on convenient, seamless, and continuous expert care for advancing symptoms and illnesses.

“We are excited to work with Premier Health in creating a new concept in care,” said Kent Anderson, CEO, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. “There is nothing else like this new center in the entire country. Together we are creating a center where those with acute and chronic illnesses can receive centralized services. We have the unique ability to honor and serve these patients to preserve dignity, provide comfort and assure grace.”

Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton will contribute palliative care expertise to Pure Healthcare. Palliative care addresses the challenges of patients with serious illness by managing symptoms and care to improve the quality of life for both patient and family. By holistically addressing the physical, spiritual and psychosocial needs of patients, palliative care supports patients as they receive life-prolonging or life-saving therapies. Patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease, cancer and other illnesses may all be candidates for Pure Healthcare support.

Premier Health will seek to assure patients have access to optimal lab and imaging resources for diagnosis and treatment, as well as advanced treatment practices.

“When two like-minded, complementary organizations set out together to improve quality of life, the result can only benefit patients with complex needs – and bring peace of mind to their loved ones,” said Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier Health. “Premier Health and Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton embody that collaborative spirit with Pure Healthcare.”

Pure Healthcare will collaborate and coordinate with primary and other health care professionals to provide seamless transitions across health care settings and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of health care services. Patients will benefit from around-the-clock symptom management and evidence based protocols. Where appropriate, new technologies will be used to monitor and address patient conditions.

A groundbreaking event at the Miami Valley Hospital South campus, 2400 Miami Valley Drive, will be announced later this year. Construction of the three-story, 36,000-square-foot building is expected to cost about $10 million.
