Premier Health Recognized Nationally for Supplier Diversity, Supply Chain

DAYTON, Ohio (Sept. 15, 2017) – Premier Health has received the 2017 Supplier Diversity Award and the Supply Chain Management Excellence Award from Vizient, the nation's leader in health care supply chain procurement. Both awards were presented on Thursday, September 14, during Vizient’s annual Clinical Connections Summit.
The Supplier Diversity Award honors hospitals for promoting inclusion in their supply chain and accelerating economic growth in their local community through the engagement and empowerment of minority and women owned businesses.
Supplier diversity has been a priority for Premier Health. In 2016, minority- and women-owned businesses accounted for nearly 55 percent of the health system’s construction spending. Premier Health’s hospitals track and promote supplier diversity throughout the year.
“We have several outreach programs and events that help us connect with minority- and women-owned businesses,” said Adrian Taylor, director of diversity. “We are also part of organizations that help us identify these businesses and get them in the pipeline for consideration.”
The Supply Chain Management Excellence Award is given to hospitals that significantly improve the ways in which they manage their distribution, logistics or inventory, thereby lowering costs and increasing internal customer satisfaction. This is the second consecutive year in which Premier Health has been honored with this award.
The supply chain clinical inventory teams within Premier Health have expanded their footprint within the hospitals. “This allowed the clinicians to return to patient care - what they do best - and the supply chain team to do what they do best: manage supplies,” said Julius Lattimore, director, material management. “We continue to look at how we control supplies across the system and look for cost savings.”
“We are committed to providing high-quality care at a competitive price and we are able to achieve that in part by allowing nurses to devote more time to their clinical duties and empowering our supply chain professionals to purchase our clinical supplies,” said Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier Health. “At the same time, we work to provide opportunities to expand our vendor base to include minority and women-owned businesses.”
