UVMC Breaks Ground for SpringMeade Expansion

Construction is underway on a 12,000-square foot addition to help accommodate short-term rehabilitation and recovery patients at UVMC’s SpringMeade Health Center in Tipp City.

A groundbreaking was held July 12 for the expansion that will include addition of 15 private suites, a therapy gym, dining room and common space with a private entrance.

“Through the years, the community’s needs for long-term and short-term care has grown, and the expansion we’re launching is an important step in allowing us to continue to provide the highest level of excellence for our SpringMeade patients,” said Becky Rice, UVMC president.

The project, costing approximately $2.1 million, will increase SpringMeade Health Center’s total number of beds to 114. Of those, 42 are dedicated to short-term patients, 50 to long-term care and 22 for secured memory care.

“This new unit will service patients requiring rehabilitation following orthopedic surgery as well as those with neurological disorders, complex medical conditions such as Stage III and IV wounds, IVs and post bariatric surgery recovery,” said India Chrisman-Williams, regional vice president of operations for AdCare Health Systems Inc., which manages UVMC’s long-term care facilities. 

“Our short-term patients have been telling us with increasing frequency that they want a private room during their stay. With this addition, we’ll be able to accommodate that need,” said Diane Pleiman, UVMC vice president and chief operating officer.

The project completion is targeted for spring 2018.

Opened by UVMC in 1992, SpringMeade Health Center was built on a farm that had been known as “Mon Reposo” – my place of rest. A long tree-lined drive on the farm led to a main house that dated back to 1866. The farmhouse, which was expanded in 1997, now serves as the activities center and gathering place for the SpringMeade complex.
