Miami Valley Hospital North (as of July 23, 2018) Emergency Center Meets a Community Need in First Year

DAYTON, Ohio (November 3, 2016) – Nearly 18,000 people have sought care from the Miami Valley Hospital North (as of July 23, 2018) Emergency Center in its first year, signaling strong demand for the facility.

Demand for emergency services at the site has exceeded projections by nearly 20 percent, and officials at the health center called the launch a success.

“It has been very gratifying to see the community support this new facility,” said Eloise Broner, president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital (closed in 2018). “In a perfect world, patients wouldn’t need emergency care, but the strong demand that we’ve seen demonstrates that these services have been welcomed by our communities.”

Feedback from patients who have received care at the emergency department has been very positive, said Dr. Steven McMahan, emergency services medical director.

“As reported by National Research Corporation, our patient satisfaction scores rank the North Emergency Center in the top 10% when compared to other emergency departments of similar size, an indication that people are clearly satisfied with the emergency care that they are receiving,” McMahan said.

Wait times are reduced and average 13 minutes – in some cases, patients walk through the door, check in, and are immediately seen by clinical staff, McMahan said.

The new emergency center accepts all patients with minor to severe injuries and conditions. It offers the same physicians and equipment found at Good Samaritan Hospital’s (closed in 2018) emergency department.

Highlights include:

  • Full-service, 24-hour emergency care
  • Staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians
  • 22 emergency beds
  • Hospitalization at a hospital best suited to the patient’s needs, if an overnight stay is needed
  • Access to Premier Health’s trauma network – patients needing trauma services will be transported to Dayton’s only Level I trauma center
  • Patient transport is available via CareFlight Air and Mobile Services, with a mobile intensive care unit stationed at the facility

Patients also have quick, direct access via Heathcliff Road into and out of the emergency department’s designated parking area.

“We are humbled that these patients place their trust in us in their hour of greatest need,” Broner said. “We strive to provide an experience that will earn a patient’s loyalty, making them part of the Premier Health family long-term.
