Skin Cancer Warning Signs

A sore that won’t heal may also be a sign of skin cancer. There are five major skin cancer warning signs:

  • Asymmetry (A) – One half of the sore doesn’t match the appearance of the other half.
  • Border (B) – The border around the sore is ragged or blurred.
  • Color (C) – Color changes across the sore, whether red to black, brown to black or something else.
  • Diameter (D) – The size of sore is greater than greater than ¼ inch.
  • Evolving (E) – The sore is changing in size, shape or color.

If you think you have any of these skin cancer warning signs or other types of sores that won’t heal, talk to your doctor.

Your treatment will depend on the type of sore it is.
