George Foster to Pinch Hit for Rod Carew in The Heart Institute of Dayton’s Sports Conversation Series Tonight

DAYTON, OHIO, November 8, 2017 – Due to circumstances beyond our control, the speaker, baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew, scheduled for tonight’s Schear Family Heart In Sports Community Conversation Series will not be able to join us. Instead, baseball Hall of Famer George Foster will step in and present his story at the Dayton Marriott at 7 p.m. tonight, November 8. The Heart Institute of Dayton thanks George Foster for his quick response and willingness to participate and sends well wishes to Rod Carew.

Statement from Rod Carew’s office:

“Rod had his regularly scheduled outpatient biopsy on Monday at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. This is the same hospital where he had his heart transplant in December. Before the biopsy, the doctors noticed Rod had a slight 99 degree temperature. Normally this would not be cause for concern but the doctors wanted to admit him as a precaution given the fact that he had received a new heart (and kidney) 11 months prior. Thus far all the battery of tests have been negative and the fever has subsided. We are happy to report that Rod's heart and kidney are functioning beautifully.  Still, all the results are not in so they are keeping him in the hospital until Wednesday.  Rod Carew is very sorry as he was really looking forward to appearing at the Dayton Heart Institute.  He apologizes for any inconvenience his absence may have caused.”

Tonight’s program featuring George Foster will be filled with stories about his legendary career as a Cincinnati Red. Foster will be join by Hal McCoy, renowned Dayton Daily News sports writer.  These two legends are sure to share rare insights and behind the scenes tales.

Tickets sold for the Rod Carew event will be honored this evening. Tickets will also be available at the door and are $10. All ticket proceeds will benefit The Heart Institute of Dayton, a non-profit institution dedicated to cardiovascular education.
